Here’s a fact that might surprise you:
The term “GOAT” — short for Greatest of All Time — was first used in sports decades ago, most notably by Muhammad Ali, who proudly called himself “The Greatest.”
Today, the term has exploded across pop culture. From athletes to entrepreneurs to influencers, everyone wants to be called “the GOAT.”
But in recent years, a new twist on this term has started popping up online: “God of All Things.” It sounds playful, even funny at first. But if you pause for a moment, it opens a deeper, spiritual conversation.
Because while humans might strive to be the greatest of all time , there is — and always will be — only One true God of All Things.

The Power of Names and Words
Words hold power. The Bible tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue”(Proverbs 18:21). Our language shapes how we see the world — and Who we believe is at the center of it.
Over time, phrases like “GOAT” have become a way to celebrate human excellence. And that’s not wrong in itself — God created us with gifts, talents, and creativity to be used for His glory. But when we start calling people “gods” — even jokingly — it’s worth stepping back to reflect.
Because every gift points back to the Giver.
What Makes Someone Truly “Great”?
Think about how culture defines greatness — fame, followers, wealth, skill, influence. Those things are impressive, but they’re also temporary. True greatness isn’t about how loudly the world praises you, but how faithfully you serve.
In Matthew 23:11, Jesus said,
“The greatest among you shall be your servant.”
That flips the whole idea of being the GOAT on its head, doesn’t it?
In God’s kingdom, greatness comes from humility, not applause. It comes from using what He’s given you to bless others, not to glorify yourself.
So when the world crowns its latest “God of All Things,” maybe it’s a reminder for us as believers: there’s only One who truly wears that title — and we’re invited to reflect Him in everything we do.

When Culture Crowns Its “Gods”
Take pop culture, for example.
We call musicians like Beyoncé or athletes like Tom Brady the GOATs of their fields — and to be fair, their dedication and discipline are admirable. But even the most gifted among us are human. They can inspire us, yes — but they can’t sustain us.
Only the Creator can do that.
Romans 11:36 reminds us:
“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever.”
Every ounce of talent, creativity, and success in this world flows from the One who breathed life into it all. The irony is that even when the world jokingly says “God of All Things,” it unknowingly speaks truth — because that title belongs fully and eternally to the Lord Himself.
The True “God of All Things”
When we look at Scripture, we see that God is not just the God of Sundays or miracles or moments of crisis. He’s the God of All Things.
- He’s the God of your career and your calling.
- He’s the God of your finances, your family, your future.
- He’s the God of the seen and unseen, the big and small.

Colossians 1:16-17 says:
“For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible… He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
That means the breath in your lungs, the ideas in your mind, and even the opportunities in your path — they all flow through His divine hand.
When we live with that awareness, our pursuit of greatness shifts from “Look at me” to “Lord, use me.”
How We Can Reclaim GOAT in a God-Honoring Way
You can still celebrate people’s achievements — Scripture tells us to “honor those to whom honor is due.”(Romans 13:7) But we can do it in a way that keeps perspective. Here’s how:
- Use Your Platform for His Purpose
Whether you have 10 followers or 10,000, use your influence to reflect Jesus — the true Greatest of All Time, and beyond time itself. - Appreciate Gifts Without Idolizing Them
Celebrate excellence but remember Who gave it. “Wow, God really blessed her with incredible leadership.” - Point Praise Upward
When someone calls you “the GOAT” in your work or ministry, smile and say, “Thanks — but I know Who gave me these gifts.”
A Heart Check for Us All
In our digital world, it’s easy to get caught up in titles — GOAT, influencer, expert, thought leader. But the Lord doesn’t measure greatness by visibility; He measures it by faithfulness.
When we do what we do for His glory, He magnifies our impact in ways we can’t even imagine. And when we fall short — which we all do — His grace reminds us that our worth isn’t earned by performance, but secured by His love.
A Closing Thought: The Greatest of All Time Is Timeless
The next time you hear someone say, “He’s the GOAT!” — take a moment and think about the One who actually is.
Jesus Christ is the Greatest of All Time — and Eternity.
He conquered sin, defeated death, and restored what no human could.
He is the true God of All Things — the Alpha and the Omega, the Author and Finisher of every good thing.
So, while the world crowns its temporary GOATs, let’s lift our eyes to the eternal One — the One who reigns forever, not just on a highlight reel, but in every heartbeat of creation.
As 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us:
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Because real greatness doesn’t come from trending.
It comes from trusting — in the God of All Things.
